In a world full of quick fixes and surface-level advice, Kristen Constantino’s work goes deeper.
Her journey is not just about healing from toxic relationships, it’s about understanding the patterns behind them, breaking them, and helping other women do the same.
We sat down with Kristen to talk about the moment everything changed, the deeper work behind healing, and what it really takes to come back to yourself.
What was the defining moment that made you bet on yourself and build your business? What’s your story?
If I’m being honest, the defining moment wasn’t glamorous. It was me sitting on my bathroom floor, not recognizing the woman staring back at me in the mirror. I had lost my voice, my confidence, worst of all, my identity.
I remember thinking, "How did I get here, and what needs to change in me to not allow this to happen again?"
That moment cracked something open in me, not just pain, but clarity. I realized my “survival scanner” had been choosing people long before my brain ever got a vote.
Before my ex-fiancé, who eventually became physically abusive, I had a pattern of choosing partners who were “only” mentally and emotionally abusive.
I call it the silent killer. No bruises. No dramatic stories. Just slow erosion.
And when you’re empathic, like I am, you don’t always label it as abuse. You call it potential. You call it trauma bonding.
You say, “He just needs love.”
You think you can fix it until one day you don’t recognize yourself anymore.
Almost immediately after I broke free, I told my best friend, “I think I’m supposed to help women through this.” It wasn’t a business idea. It was a calling.
Once I understood why my nervous system was scanning for familiarity instead of safety, I knew I couldn’t unknow it and I couldn’t stay silent about it.
There’s always been something in me that, once I learn how to move a mountain, I want to turn around and show others how to climb it too.
And honestly, that’s biblical.
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” — 2 Corinthians 1:3
I didn’t just want to move my mountain.
I wanted to teach women how to move theirs with strategy, emotional awareness, and spiritual strength.
And on a deeper level, this work is about children.
As an educator, I see what toxic environments do to nervous systems in real time, the anxiety, the hypervigilance, the shutdown.
I’ve watched kids carry emotional weight that was never meant for them. Even in my own past relationship, I saw the ripple effects of dysfunction.
And I made a quiet promise: if I can help a woman heal, I can help shift an entire household.
Healing women isn’t just about the woman. It’s about breaking cycles.
It’s about protecting children who don’t yet have the language for what they’re living in.
So, I bet on myself, not because I felt fearless, but because I felt responsible.
Responsible for the woman I used to be. And for the next generation watching us choose differently.
Why do so many women stay in patterns that don’t serve them?
Once I understood why my nervous system was scanning for familiarity instead of safety, everything started to make sense.
We don’t always choose what’s healthy.
We choose what’s familiar.
Even if that familiarity is painful.
When you’ve been in toxic dynamics, your nervous system learns patterns. It learns what love looks like, even if it isn’t actually healthy. That’s why so many women second guess themselves, stay longer than they should, or go back to what they already know isn’t right.
It’s not weakness. It’s conditioning.
And once you understand that, you can start to change it.

How has your personal journey shaped the woman and the brand you lead today?
My personal journey is the foundation of the woman and the brand I lead today.
What I teach isn’t theory, it’s lived experience. I walked through heartbreak, self-doubt, and rebuilding my identity from the ground up. But I didn’t stop at surviving it.
I chose to get professionally trained, to understand the psychology, the nervous system patterns, and the deeper roots of toxic dynamics so I could truly overcome them, not just cope.
That combination of experience and education is what makes my mission purpose driven. I don’t lead from a pedestal. I lead from embodiment.
Because I’ve lived it and learned how to rise from it, I know what’s possible for other women. Healing isn’t just about moving on, it’s about transforming how you see yourself, how you choose, and how you show up in the world.
What impact do you most want your work to have on your community?
The impact I want goes beyond just helping a woman feel better in the moment. Of course I want her to feel more confident, more clear, more grounded. But more than that, I want her to actually feel safe within herself.
Because when a woman learns how to regulate her nervous system, trust her intuition, and stop choosing from survival, everything shifts. The way she sees herself changes. The way she chooses changes. The way she shows up in relationships changes.
And it doesn’t stop with her.
It affects her friendships, her family, her future children, the environment she creates.
That’s what matters to me. Not just temporary change, but something that actually lasts and carries into other people’s lives too.
What advice would you give to women who feel called to more, but are still hesitating?
I would tell her that hesitation doesn’t mean she’s not ready. Most of the time, it means she’s right on the edge of something bigger.
We think we need to feel confident first, but that’s not how it works. Confidence comes after you move, not before. You don’t need to have everything figured out.
You don’t need to feel fearless. You just need to be willing to take one step, even if it feels uncomfortable.
And honestly, staying where you are will cost you more than taking the risk to grow.
You’re not too much. You’re not behind. And you’re not asking for too much from life.
If you feel that pull, that knowing that there’s more for you, it’s there for a reason.
Trust it.
If you saw yourself in any part of this story, this is your next step.
Shattered to Shining was created for the woman who is ready to stop repeating patterns and start choosing herself.
You don’t have to figure it out alone.
